President Rouhani Leaves Tehran for New York

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran for New York where he is to take part in the 68th session of the UN General Assembly and meet many high-ranking officials from other countries.


TEHRAN (Asremrooz):The companions of President Rouhani in this important foreign visit are the Chief of Staff of the President’s Office Mohammad Nahavandian, Head of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization Mohammad Ali Najafi, President’s Media Adviser Mohammad Reza Sadeq, and President’s Cultural Affairs adviser Hesameddin Ashena.

The only Jewish member of the Iranian Parliament Siamak Morreh Sedq also accompanies the president on his trip.

President Rouhani left Tehran on Monday morning, and is expected to arrive in John F. Kennedy International Airport around 1900 local time.

On his first day of stay in New York, the Iranian president will attend the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly. Thereafter, he is scheduled to meet his French counterpart Francois Hollande as well as Austrian President Heinz Fischer. Separate meetings with German foreign minister and the prime minister of Fiji will also take place on the first day.

Moreover, President Rouhani is due to have interviews with CNN television channel, The Washington Post daily newspaper and CBS television network.

He is also expected to meet presidents of Tunisia and Lebanon, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Turkish president, Iraqi deputy prime minister, as well as Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.

On Tuesday, Rouhani will also address foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and will deliver a speech to the 68th session of the UN General Assembly.

He will reportedly attend a press conference on the last day of his official visit to the UN Headquarters in New York City.
